Public Service Battles Before the Australian Polls

A new division has been drawn between the major Australian political parties, as the first few days of campaigning begin ahead of the August election polls.

The battle is being fought over the status of the Australian Public Service, which has caused a lot of debate between the Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the Opposition Leader Tony Abbott. Ahead of the Federal election polls, Julia Gillard suggested that the Labor party had no plans of shaking up the Australian Public Service. Any cuts made to the APS would mean many families would suffer from less services. Nevertheless, she committed to a more effective APS. Tony Abbott on the other hand argued that 12,000 APS positions should be cut, which would free up about$45.8 billion per year.
