Fine Gael Party Leading Ireland’s 2011 Polls For Election
Posted on 21 March 2011

In constituency-by-constituency polls for election on the online discussion forum Boards.ie, over 21,000 users have given Fine Gael 30.8% of their votes. The polling simulates the Single Transferable vote system that is used in the real general election. So far, 40 constituencies have a Fine Gael candidate topping the polls, but in Carlow-Kilkenny and Cork-South Central, Fianna Fail candidates are out in front so far.
The demographic that registered the most votes in the online polling was the 25-34 age group, with around 40% of the vote. More men then women participated with 80% of the votes being cast by men. The analysis of the transfer of votes is telling, as a larger percentage than normal of the Fianna Fail votes are not transferable, meaning that those voting for an individual Fianna Fail candidate are declining to allow their vote to be transferred to another Fianna Fail candidate should their first choice be eliminated.
